Black Bear Fall in Overtime

Providence College Friars #5 Janai Croom hits a floater over Maine Black Bear's defender. Croom finished with 18 points in the Friars 66-61 overtime victory Saturday, November 13th.

Orono,ME– On Saturday, November 13th the Maine Black Bears were looking to get their first non conference victory after falling to the Nebraska Cornhuskers 100-58 on Tuesday, November 9th. The Black Bears would have the lead through most of the game against the Friars Saturday however would fall 66-61 in overtime.

The Black Bears would start off hot and have the 17-3 lead after the first quarter however would only find themselves up by 4 at halftime as the Friars would score 21 points in the second quarter to cut the lead to 28-24 halftime score. The Friars would hold the Black Bears to 33.3% from the field throughout the whole game and out rebounded the Black Bears 47-41. 

Emily Archibald would lead the Friars with 20 points on 8 for 14 shooting. Janai Croom would record a double-double finishing with 18 points and 19 rebounds. 

Leading the Black Bears was Anne Simon who finished with 24 points followed by Alba Orois who finished with 13 points. Maeve Carroll would also finish with 8 points. 

The Black Bears fall to 0-2 overall and will look to pick up their first win as they host the University of Delaware Monday, November 15th. The Friars improve to 1-1 and will play  host to University of Rhode Island Wednesday, November 17th.
