Black Bears Fall Short in Overtime

Maine Black Bear Goalie #32 Victor Ostman stopped 41 shots on net in the Black Bears 3-2 loss in overtime vs UConn.

Orono, ME- The Black Bears came into Saturday, November 6th game with the UConn Huskies looking to pick up their first win under new head coach Ben Barr, However, UConn had other plans. The Huskies would get the 3-2 overtime victory as well as the 4-3 victory in overtime Friday, November 5th. 

The Huskies would get on the board early as UConn’s Ryan Tverberg found the back of the net to give the Huskies the 1-0 lead early in the first period. The Black Bears would answer right back with 1:27 into the second period Donavan Villeneuve-Houle would record his first career goal from an assist from Keenan Suthers and John Mulera.  UConn would score their second goal as Harrison Rees would score to give the Huskies the early 2-1 lead, however, it would be short-lived as Maine’s Houle would tie the game up at 2-2 heading into the 3rd period. 

UConn would cap the scoring off with Rees recording his second goal of the night to give the Huskies the victory. 

Maine will look to get their first victory of the season as they play Merrimack College Friday, November 12th, and Saturday, November 13th. 

UConn will host Boston College Friday, November 12th followed by traveling to Providence Saturday, November 13th.
